CDF's Play on the Pitch tournament huge success

Club Doncaster Foundation hosted their annual Play on the Pitch football tournament on Wednesday, allowing children and teenagers from across the Borough the chance to grace the Keepmoat turf.

Despite the none-stop rain, 160 boys and girls competed in the morning’s competition before 80 kicks participants tried their hand at winning silverware in the afternoon.

Snatching the accolade for the schools was Warsmworth Primary School, while Balby Kicks United beat Club Doncaster Sports College in the final to lift the trophy in the heart of the stadium.

Schools Co-ordinator Kelly Jackson organised the event and was delighted with the outcome. She said: “It was fantastic to see all the hard work of everyone come together and even better to see the smiles on the children’s faces, for what is a once in a lifetime opportunity, to play on a League 1 pitch!”

“The event acted as a nice reward for the children who have worked hard all year and in particular the Year 6 children who have just had their SATS. It’s definitely a day they will always remember.”

Kicks Co-ordinator, Mark Cooper added: “Being able to provide such an amazing opportunity is brilliant, it’s something special to play on the ground of your home town team so to see it all come together was great for everyone involved.”

Throughout the day, Club Doncaster Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing department also hosted a separate Super Stars competition in the concourse, allowing the participants to compete in rowing, curling, standing long jump and basketball for the chance to win a shield.

Mount Carmel Primary School racked up enough points across the board to bring home the shield for the Super Stars and were presented with the accolade by Doncaster Rovers’ very own Donny Dog, who spent the day cheering on the teams.

Health and Wellbeing Officer, Nick Gillott commented: “Play on the Pitch is always a competition that involves everyone from across the departments in the Foundation, so it’s a real chance to showcase our unity.”

“It was great that we could host the Super Stars competition and keep the children entertained in between their games, they were all so keen to get involved and really did their schools’ proud.”
