EFL Kids Cup joy

Club Doncaster Foundation were proud to host the annual EFL Kids Cup this afternoon, as 25 schools from across the borough battled in tough winter conditions.

Some fantastic football was showcased throughout the day, but it was Owston and Sunnyfields who beat strong opposition to claim spots in the final.

The final will now be played on January 27th at the Keepmoat Stadium ahead of Doncaster Rovers’ clash with Bristol Rovers.

Schools co-ordinator, Kelly Jackson said: “It was really tough conditions for the players, so I have to start with thanking them and all their teachers and parents for their efforts on the day.

“I was really impressed with the standard of football and that was reflected with how tight the games were and how entertaining they were to watch.

“It’s brilliant they now get the chance to play on the Keepmoat Stadium, a dream come true for many of them and even better the potential progressions after that game.”

The winners of the final on the 27th will progress through to the next round of the cup and represent Doncaster Rovers at the EFL Kids Cup League 1 North Finals.

Programme manager, Dean Sharp added: “We’re really proud of all the players who turned up today, they were a credit to the schools.

“A big thank you must also go to the team behind the scenes, who worked so hard leading up to the day and during it for it to be such a success.”
