PFG complete bikeability

Locals from the People Focused Group (PFG) Doncaster have taken their first step to completing bikeability training with Club Doncaster Foundation.

PFG uses peer support that helps individuals with issues such as low confidence and mental health. Working with Club Doncaster Foundation on this bikeability training encourages participants to exercise, work as part of a team and hopefully gain confidence to make short journeys by bike.

Jackie Thompson, the Building Manager at PFG commented: “It’s amazing that Club Doncaster Foundation have offered this opportunity to them, it really it helps with their confidence, health and with life skills.

“A lot of our members cant afford bikes, so the fact they can not only borrow a bike but learn skills to be able to ride them safely is fantastic. It really has made an unbelievable difference and their confidence has sky rocketed.”

Along with a new means of transport, new life skills and their over-all health and wellbeing, Club Doncaster Foundation have also offered complimentary tickets to the MK Dons fixture later this month.

Club Doncaster Foundation’s Scott Copeland commented: “We have been delivering cycling sessions with PFG for a number of months now. Naturally participants have varying levels of competency and experience on a bike and this lead us to deliver a bikeabilty course for those who weren’t as confident.”

He continued: “The sessions have been great fun and it has been great working with the groups and seeing how quickly their skills have developed and their confidence has grown. We are looking at delivering the next stage of the course in the new year to further develop participants skills and encourage them to make short journeys safely by bike.”

Following the completion of the course, participants also have the opportunity to loan cycles from Club Doncaster Foundation's bike library, allowing them freedom to travel at their leisure.
