Sports College Lecturer bags medals at ICO World Cup
Club Doncaster Sports College lecturer, Craig Collins made the organisation proud last week, bringing home three medals in the ICO World Cup 2017.
Craig competed with a small team from his Taekwondo academy, representing England at the three-day event in Birmingham.
They entered several different disciplines including Korean patterns, creative forms, weapons, points and light continuous fighting, bringing home 12 different medals from three competitions.
Proud of his achievements, Sports College Principal, Adi Turnpenny said: “All at Club Doncaster Sports College would like to add our congratulations to Craig for his remarkable achievements – it is great to have a world class athlete on our staff which, of course, has immeasurable benefits for our students’ education.”
Craig won gold in Korean patterns and creative forms seeing off strong opposition from German opponents. He also won a silver medal in weapons, and a bronze medal in points fighting.
16 International Teams all had representatives and in attendance was those from as far as Brazil and New Zealand. Craig and his team impressed so much so that they have qualified to compete at the International Sport Kickboxing Association World Championships held in Montego Bay, Jamaica in September 2018.
Delighted with the opportunity, Craig commented: "It was a great achievement to be successful at an International event not just for myself but also for my students. Its great to be a positive role model and hopefully raise aspirations for what young people in Doncaster can achieve.”
