Students inspired by Carabao Cup and Rovers defender on first day of term
New starters at Club Doncaster Sports College had the perfect first day of term on Monday, posing for a photo with the Carabao Cup in between lessons.
The cup was positioned at the Keepmoat Stadium where Doncaster Rovers skipper, Andy Butler was giving press an insight into their away draw against Arsenal later this week.
Students were able to take a “selfie” with the famous cup before it made its way to the Frenchgate shopping centre, allowing fans across the Doncaster Borough to do the same.
Andy said: “It’s great the Carabao Cup is in Doncaster because then everyone gets to experience a little bit of the magic and get ready for the tie this week.
There’s something special about a cup game and it’s fantastic we’ve drawn Arsenal; there really is a buzz in the air throughout the town and it will be a great day out for the fans that are travelling to watch us.”
He continued: “It’s not very often you get the chance to play against a club like Arsenal, it’s a big deal getting through the rounds so we’re all excited to pull our boots on; we hope we can put on a good display for the fans because they deserve it.
It’s a one off game but the pressure is on them, not us, we’re the underdogs so we’ll just go there and perform how we know they can. When you’re a young kid, you dream of playing at grounds like this – you see it on the TV every Saturday night and I can’t wait.”
Doncaster Rovers face Arsenal on Wednesday September 20th in round three of the Carabao Cup, sponsored by Carabao Energy Drink.
