Traineeship Programme

We are currently recruiting for a traineeship based at the Keepmoat Stadium. This is an excellent opportunity for local young people to get into the sport industry working within the different departments across Club Doncaster, Doncaster Rovers FC, The Dons Rugby League Club and other organisations based within the Keepmoat Stadium. The traineeship programme is broken down as follows:

Course Structure & Content:

  • 2 weeks pre-employment training
  • English & Maths Study
  • Between 7 weeks & 26 weeks practical work experience

The candidates will undertake work experience in the following areas of club doncaster:

  • Club Doncaster Foundation - Coaching Team
  • Doncaster Rovers FC - Ground Staff
  • Doncaster Rovers FC - Club Shop
  • Doncaster Rovers FC - Ticket Office
  • Keepmoat Stadium - Soccer Centre
  • Keepmoat Stadium - Catering & Hospitality
  • Club Doncaster - Media & Marketing

Additionally, the candidates will all be invited to take part in a four day team building and outward residential trip free of charge.

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements. Learners must have a positive 'can do' attitude, smart appearance and be polite.

Career Prospects:

Opportunities exist to enter careers including; customer service, retail, sports coaching, leisure management, and leisure operational services. There is also the option for learners to progress onto the Level 2 and 3 programmes.

Active IQ Level 2 Diploma in Active Leisure (includes Fitness Instructor Qualification)

Course Description

This qualification provides learners with the essential knowledge and skills required by those who wish to pursue a career as a fitness instructor. It gives learners the opportunity to gain a nationally accredited qualification which provides the essential knowledge, skills and personal qualities required for an occupation in the Health and Fitness sector.

The course allows for natural progression on to the Active IQ Level 2 Diploma in Health and Fitness or the BTEC Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science. 

Course Structure & Content

September 2017 to July 2018 - Up to 3.5 days per week

The programme consists of the following units:

  • Understanding the Active Leisure & Learning Sector
  • Gym Instructor Qualification
  • Teamwork
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
  • Know How to Support Clients Who Take Part in Exercise and Physical Exercise
  • Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health
  • Planning Gym-Based Exercise
  • Instructing Gym-Based Exercise
  • How the Body Works
  • How to Adopt An Act
  • Marketing
  • Business Skills
  • Handling and Maintaining Equipment

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade D or above, including English Language and Maths. Level 1 qualification e.g. completion of BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure or Diploma in Progression. The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary. 

Career Prospects

Opportunities exist to enter careers including; fitness instruction, outdoor activities, sports coaching, sport and exercise science, leisure management, and leisure operational services. Each learner on the will have the chance to apply for the Level 2 Diploma in Health & Fitness (including Personal Training qualification) upon successful completion of Year 1.

Active IQ Level 2 Diploma in Health & Fitness (includes Personal Training Qualification)

Course Description

This qualification provides learners with the essential knowledge and skills required by those who wish to pursue a career as a Personal Trainer working in the Leisure Industry. It gives learners the opportunity to gain a nationally accredited qualification which provides the essential knowledge, skills and personal qualities required for an occupation in the Leisure Industry and Health and Fitness Sector.

The course allows for natural progression to the BTEC Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science or employment within the Leisure Industry.

September 2017 to July 2018 - Up to 4 days per week

The programme consists of the following units:

  • Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
  • Personal Training with Clients
  • Delivering Personal Training Sessions
  • Planning an activity session
  • Assist in delivering an Activity Session
  • Applying the Principles of Nutrition to a Physical Activity Programme
  • How to Adopt an Active Healthy Lifestyle
  • Improving Business Skills 

Entry requirements

Completion of the Active IQ Level 2 Diploma in Sport & Leisure.

Opportunities exist to enter careers including gym instructor, personal training, outdoor activities, sports coaching, sport and exercise science, leisure management, and leisure operational services. 

Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit / Extended Diploma in Sport

Course Description

This unique pathway has been put together to give learners the chance to develop their employment opportunities within professional sport. The course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and understanding of a number of science based and sport units. Based at Club Doncaster Sports College at the Keepmoat Stadium, home to Doncaster Rovers FC and The Dons Rugby League Club, learners are able to study at the state of the art classrooms and 3G astro-turf pitches boasted by the Stadium to offer both theory and practical sessions.

Course Structure & Content

September 2017 to July 2018 - Up to 4 days per week

This programme consists of the following Units:

  • Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
  • Psychology of Sport
  • Fitness Testing
  • Nutrition for Sports Performance
  • Practical Team Sport
  • Sports Coaching
  • Sports Development
  • Work Experience

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including maths and English Language or a Level 2 BTEC in Diploma in Sport. Assessments are internally assessed by the course tutors and learners will be required to keep a portfolio of evidence of work. The method of learning is a mixture of both tutor led and practical sessions, learners are required to fully participate in both classroom based and practical activities.

Progression

The BTEC level 3 will give you the foundation for entry into University as it is worth up to 168 UCAS points for those who achieve a D* D* D*. Successful learners may also apply for a wide range of jobs within the sport & leisure industry such as: Health & Lifestyle Services, Health & Fitness Facilities, Coaching, Teaching, Professional Sport & Performance, Health Promotion, Community Development Officers and Sports Development Officer.

HND Sport & Exercise Sciences

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in Sport and Exercise Sciences is a two year, full-time programme. On successful completion of the HNC Higher National Certificate (HNC) in the first year, you will have the opportunity to progress onto the HND in Sport and Exercise Sciences which aims to provide the opportunity to undertake a course with a specialist vocational context. The programme will provide students with a higher level of contextualised awareness of sport and exercise science.

Our goal is to prepare you for a successful career within the sport and exercise science industry. Some students may then undertake further study to complete a full honours degree which is currently available at Selby College. This programme is delivered at Club Doncaster Sports College and Selby College.

COURSE STRUCTURE & CONTENT

Building on previous knowledge and skills in the field of sports, the course is structured to provide opportunities across a broad academic and vocational base, progressively deepening learners’ knowledge. Particular emphasis is placed on ensuring that students are able to effectively apply their knowledge to relevant practical situations.

Entry requirements

48 UCAS tariff points (NEW UCAS TARIFF) from either:

  • BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma (QCF) in Sport or Sport & Exercise Science or a related subject
  • A Levels (including Physical Education or a related subject)

The following are also required:

  • Satisfactory references
  • An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check
  • Grade C or above in GCSE English, Maths and Science is desirable.
